Movin’ On Down

We officially all slept in the basement for the first time last night.  It was 30 degrees upstairs.  Ugh.  It is not looking like it is going to get any cooler over the summer so it looks like we may be living in the basement for the next couple months.  Therefore I am trying to get is suitable for regular habitation.  This requires moving a lot of big furniture, including an air hockey table and a ginormous desk.  Fortunately we have two bedrooms downstairs, so Chloe is able to have her own room.  I have set up a temporary change table on an old dresser and she is sleeping in her playpen, which I need to go buy a sheet for if this is going to become a regular thing.  Last night I moved her at around 10.  She didn’t wake up during the move and she slept quite well in her playpen so hopefully this continues to work, as no person in their right mind can sleep comfortably in 30 degrees.  I have also completely covered the window so that this room is dark as well so hopefully she naps well in there.  The only disadvantage is that I do not have a dimmer switch in any of the rooms in the basement so I will have to figure out something for her room.  Maybe I will steal a lamp from upstairs.  The guest bed is in my office right beside the other room where Chloe is sleeping so Brian and I slept quite comfortably there.  We have a TV and DVD player downstairs.  The Xbox and N64 are also in the basement, so with the exception of the Wii and the VCR, everything that is upstairs, we have downstairs as well.  We even have a bathroom in  the basement.  Now if only I could figure out a way to cook downstairs, we could stay in the cool basement all the time.

If anyone has any ideas for keeping the upstairs cool without a/c, let me know.  I already have 5 fans going and it is not working so well.  This morning at 8:30, it was already 27.

* Due to the heat we have not been able to get the curtains in her room up yet, so I do not have any pics yet.  It is supposed to rain later this week I think so we will try to do it then and I will get the pics posted.  The curtains are finished.

The Grossest Teether

My finger has become a teether.  My poor little girl is teething and has been for a couple weeks now.  We can actually feel the teeth already!  As she is still under four months, she is not supposed to use Baby Anbesol or Baby Orajel.  On July 15, she will be four months old, so on our way home from the doctors, we are stopping at Wal-mart.  I am very excited about my anbesol purchase.  She doesn’t seem to like teething toys very much, but she loves my fingers.  If she actually had teeth, I am sure that my fingers would have been chewed to pieces by now.  Maybe I will have to go buy one of those halloween hands that you put in your trunk and cut the finger off so she can chew on it.  Wouldn’t that be a pretty site?  Most children walk around with a stuffed animal or a blanket.  Mine will walk around with a severed halloween hand covered in fake blood.  As that would probably get social services called on me, I guess I am going to have to stick to Baby Tylenol and my fingers for now, and Baby Anbesol in 17 days.

Black-out Curtains

I am currently attempting to make curtains for Chloe’s room.  I recently discovered that she sleeps better during the day if her room is dark as night.  This is a great improvement over her 30-45 minute naps she was having.  Currently I have taken the top sheet off our guest bed and pinned it to the wall with thumbtacks.  It works well but looks quite tacky, and is depriving us of a sheet, should we have compant. Therefore, I decided to make curtains.  I went to Fabricland yesterday (which is closing down so everything is at least 50% off) and bought some material for curtains that I think goes with her room.  Once I got it home, I realized that even though I had bought enough for double layers, it wasn’t thick enough to completely cut out the light so back to Fabricland I returned.  I couldn’t find any dark coloured cotton to attach to the back of my curtains, so I asked a lady that was there for help.  When I told her that I wanted to completely block the light, she suggested a material called black-out material!  It completely blocks the light, so I picked up some of that.  It’s great!  Now I am attempting to sew these curtains on a machine that is older than Moses and without a pattern.  Hopefully they work out and I can have a picture of my completely finished nursery up in a few days.  (It only took three and a half months, pretty good for a former Penner).

The First One

Well, I have decided to give blogging a try.  The main reason for this is that I want Chloe’s family to be able to see pictures and keep up to date with how we are doing.  Also, it gives me something to do when I am bored and it is something I can do with Chloe on my lap.  So I am going to give it a try.  I was going to post a video of Chloe laughing, but I can’t figure out how and as Brian is not home, I’ll have to do it some other time.  If you have any ideas for a better title let me know.  This one isn’t that great and I couldn’t think of another one.
