The Cure for Bad Driving
This is a relatively new campaign here in Alberta. The commercials list all sorts of statistics and then say that it is not a disease, as most would expect from hearing the stats, but bad driving. Then they say, “the cure for bad driving is you.” The end of the ad states that it is sponsored by the government of Alberta. I hear those and I wonder why they still have not made drivers ed mandatory out here. Nobody even knows the basic rules of the road. Have you ever watched Canada’s Worst Drivers? The majority of those people are from Calgary, or at least Alberta. The government is paying for these ads. As the government they have the authority to make Driver’s Ed mandatory, and probably even the money to pay for it . I know ours was paid for in Saskatchewan. It was even taught in our school so we didn’t have to go anywhere, just stay afterwards. Granted, our driver’s ed instructor was not the greatest of instructors, but friends of mine from other schools had good ones. While it would not solve all the problems, at least people would know the rules of the road before they started driving on them.
Side note: Every time I hear this ad, I am reminded of Smokey the Bear and “Only you can prevent forest fires.” I think they stole it.
The new diapers
Chloe’s diapers arrived on Monday. I washed them a couple times for maximum absorbency and Tuesday after bible study, put her in her first one. So far, so good. They are incredibly simple and I am not at all grossed out by them. They are also really absorbent. I do not have to change them any more often than I did the disposables, and I used Huggies Supreme. They are also not that much bulkier than disposables, except at night when I put in an extra insert. We have only had one night, but I bought some hemp doublers, which make them more absorbent and I put them in overnight with the microfiber one that came with the diaper. So far, no leaks.
An added advantage is that her room smells less already. I am guessing that is because the poop is flushed down the toilet instead of rolled into the diaper and placed in a bin (even if it is a genie) to sit for a few days. They are also way cuter, although there is the disadvantage that some of the colours clash with her outfit when the diaper sticks out the back of her pants. For instance, today she was wearing brown cords and a pink top. Both the orange and the red diaper didn’t match so well. I highly doubt she cares.
Here are some pictures of her in her new diapers. They are Fuzzi Bunz.

(this bottom one is right before bed, so it is stuffed with an extra insert, thus the bubble butt).
A busy couple weeks
While, it has been a while. We have had company twice, and I have been extremely exhausted due to the third trimester sandman returning so it has been a while since I have had a chance to get on here. Anyway, the biggest deal since my last post?
This baby turned one!! (Has it really been over a year?)

My parents came to visit for the occasion. Chloe had ice cream cake, which she loved! (and got all over her face and in her hair)

I had planned to do a nice one year old post with numerous pictures and some random things about Chloe (like the fact that she has 8 teeth, loves her soother and blanket, is practically running, and gets into EVERYTHING) but that never happened and now it has been too long to do that.
While my dad was here, he helped Brian get ready for the bedroom building that was doing to take place the next weekend. They ripped out the coat closet and ripped up the flooring in preparation. They also went out and picked up a bunch of drywall and two by fours.
Brian’s parents and his sister and her husband and their daughter also came to visit the weekend after in order to help us build Chloe’s bedroom.
The guys built and installed lighting.

There is still some mudding to be done and we have to paint and put the floor back in, but it now looks like this.

While us womenfolk did some work, we also did some more entertaining things. We took the girls swimming. Kaytlyn had gone before, but it was Chloe’s first time. We went in the morning and then again in the afternoon after the girls had eaten lunch and had naps. In the morning, Chloe would cry if her foot touched the water at first, but after a little bit of time, she would sit in the water on someone’s lap and play with toys that were handed to her. In the afternoon, it took her about five minutes to get used to it again and then she played wherever and would walk to toys and was getting her face and hair wet. She had a lot of fun and I think I will start taking her more regularly.

It was a good weekend, although Chloe had a rough time the first two nights, being awake from 1:20-3something the first night and 4:40-5:30 the second and I had to let her cry herself to sleep as much as I hated doing it because nothing else (including a bottle of milk which she has had maybe twice in her life) was working.
On Wednesday we will get our kitchen finished with the door and other pieces that were missing and next week we get our floor in. I am quite excited! I will definitely post pictures when they are done. I will also post pictures of the new bedroom once it is completely finished.
So there is a brief summary of the last couple weeks. I think that is everything. If not, oh well. Maybe I’ll remember another day.
It Changes Fast!
This evening Brian and I went out for supper (5-6ish). I wore flip flops and a sweater. Just now, Brian left for Poker. It is just about 9. This is what it looks like outside.

You can’t see it as I had to take the pic without the flash or the light just reflected on the snowflakes, but it is snowing quite heavily. There is about three inches already and you could see the driveway when we were out earlier.
It is supposed to be minus 30 tomorrow. It was about plus 5 today. We must be living inside a menopausal woman.
When do you stop?
Chloe will be one in a little over a week. Now I am wondering, when do you stop counting in months. When they are first born, it is in days, until they are one – two weeks old. Then you count in weeks until about 6-8 weeks. Then you count in months. Obviously next is years, but there is such a huge difference between one and two that I don’t think that I would count that way. Maybe after two? I don’t know. What do you do?
Also, I was going to take a belly shot today and post it and then I realized that I was wearing the same shirt as the last time I took one. (Gotta love the 7 shirt rotation of maternity clothes) I didn’t want to change shirts just to take a picture, so I will maybe take one tomorrow, when I wear a different shirt.
